SO HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT BUILDING A CREDIT HISTORY, IN THE FIRST PLACE?
It’s like that classic job-hunting frustration.
“You need experience to get the job, but you need the job to get experience.” 🙄 (Yes, this is where the eye-roll emoji fits perfectly.)
The trick? Start small. Apply for a tiny bit of credit first, something manageable that you can pay off easily.
Here’s what you’ll need in your “I’m a responsible human” starter pack:
- A payslip (proof you actually earn money)
- At least 3 months of bank statements
- A copy of your ID
- Proof of address in your name (or an affidavit from your parent/guardian/landlord confirming you’re a real resident of Planet Earth)
- Anything else that proves you’re not a robot (just kidding… mostly)
And here’s the thing, credit providers also want to see that you can actually afford the repayments. That means having a clear picture of how you’re spending your net income and showing you’ve got enough left over to comfortably cover the monthly instalments.
